Seamless Ferritic Alloy-Steel P9 Pipe

for High Temperature Service

Seamless Ferritic Alloy-Steel Pipe for High Temperature Service. This specification covers both nominal and minimum wall thickness.

U.S. Metals will supply all the Chrome Moly Alloy A335/SA335 Seamless P9 Piping that your company needs. Economic growth in the United States has led to an increased demand for P9 in recent years. We are not only capable of meeting the demand for this P9 high pressure steel pipe, also known as boiler steel pipe, but US Metals can also meet different needs for customized sizes and shapes.

U.S. Metals has an experienced and knowledgeable staff that can assist you with all your specialty alloy requirements, no matter how difficult the situation. Ideal for use in the oil and gas industries, P9 is suitable for bending, flanging, and similar forming operations, and for fusion welding.

U. S. Metals stocks P9 material to a 0.03% to 0.06% max vanadium. Our inventory is gradually being changed over to a 0.03% max Vanadium to meet the refinery industry tighter limits. Industry has discovered that Creep Cracking has the potential to form with the presence of Vanadium above 0.06%

U. S. Metals stocks ASTM /ASME A/SA P9 Pipe, Heater Tubes, Fittings, Flanges and Valves from ½” NPS through 30” NPS with wall thickness ranging from STD through XXH. Emphasis on our P9 inventory is our strength in the Heater Tube market. We are considered to have the largest inventory of P9 Heater Tubes. Heater Tubes typically range in sixes 4" NPS through 8” NPS from STD Wall Thickness through XXH. USM stock also consists of Minimum Wall Thickness pipe as well as material certified to ASTM/ASME A/SA 213 which is required by some heater designs. Go to the U. S. Metals comparison chart titled The Difference Between ASTM A213 and ASTM A335 for more information on the difference between P9 and T9.

About ASTM A335 P9 Pipe

Trade Name: 9 Chrome
Grade: P9
UNS #:
S50400
Pipe: A335/SA335
Forged/Bored Pipe: A369/SA369

A335/SA335 P9 is a seamless ferritic alloy-steel pipe used for high-temperature applications. These pipes are versatile and can be used to transmit water, oil and natural gas.

Key to the composition of chrome moly alloy P9 is the addition of chromium and molybdenum. Chromium, or chrome, improves high-temperature strength, increases oxidation resistance and raises the tensile, yield and hardness at room temperatures. Molybdenum increases the strength, elastic limit, resistance to wear, impact qualities and hardenability. It increases the resistance to softening, restrains grain growth and makes chromium steel less susceptible to embrittlement. Moly is also the most effective additive for increasing high temperature creep strength, or creep resistance. It also enhances the corrosion resistance of steel and inhibits pitting.
